Couple marbles

Curious about the smaller marble.Not perfectly round ,so is it a "thrown out" reject?And as far as collectors go is it less valuable being out of round.I would still like to spend more time learning the makers but havent had time,maybe this winter..with that said looking for ID on both,much appreciated

Hello HAPPYCAMPER!

The one on the left is an Alley marble from the late 30s or 40s, made most likely at the St. Mary's site.
The right one is a Slag marble. Slags are harder to identify by maker sometimes but yours is probably made by Akro in the 20s or so.

Out of round marbles were not necessarily rejects. The machines didn't make them perfectly round, just close enough that you usually couldn't tell that they weren't. As years went by and competition increased, marble companies made more marbles faster and cheaper and quality control got lax. That's normally where you see the bulk of out of round machine made marbles... 1940s/50s and up.
