Hit two fields tonight with a couple of buddies. First one produce an early Large Cent and a broach. The second one I have been hunting for quite a while but only hit the farm fields briefly. The following are my finds.
First field:
(1) small flat button.
Second field:
(1) 1969 half dollar - someone hammered the sides of it for fun I guess.
(1) what appears to be a Washington quarter dipped in hell. Turns out it's a 1941 Washington. Pesticides have chewed it up.
(1) 1944 Merc dime.
(1) 1899 Barber dime.

I have seen people hit silver coins on the edges to make a ring. The half dollar is 1969, 40% silver

Nice finds. FoundinNC is right. Because they hammered the edge down they smashed the 9 into looking like a 0. They only made Franklin Half Dollars in 1960, not Kennedys. Still a nice find, as any Half Dollar is a nice find. Congrats.

Nice finds, congratulations! :occasion14:

I found this silver quarter... and noticed that the edge was curved and it had no reeding. This was the beginning of a silver ring... before it got away! I like the fact that someone "worked" on the coin, before they lost it.

Congrats on the silver coins. Well done.

I agree with the start of making a ring on the half dollar.

sent from my computer by frantically poking at the keyboard with a single finger

Night hunt!?!? It's cold nuff for me during the day! :dontknow:

I just figured that out earlier today. I saw it in the pic that I took and realized that it was a 1969. You noticed that quicker than I did, good eye.

In 8 years or so that I have been associated with this site , I can count one hand the number of silver Kennedy half dollars that were dug and posted. I don't remember ever seeing a ring either complete or unfinished made from one as a dug up find . Nice unusual (dare I say rare ?)find.
