Crab fossil found (update!!! 6-14-08)

Took my daughter to a place I had found some fossils before. We were there about five minutes when she said "look at this rock I found", I looked at it and said "I think that's a crab!" No claws or legs but we were very excited.
That is the second crab found there. We have been back once since then but no more crabs, just a couple of little shells.

Update: So I got back there today and found some of the crab balls talked about below, they're pretty cool. Got two to crack open so far.see new pics

Update: Went back again got a new type of shell. Can anyone help identify? It is round and coned, see last picture. Thanks!!

Thanks for all the great comments! We've went back and looked for some more fossils like this one, but all we can find are some small shell fossils. I'll keep looking and keep you posted of anything new I find!

Ever heard of a stone called a crab ball? Kinda cool actually. They look like sandstone and you take and boil water, throw them in and they crack. Sometimes, if you are really lucky, you get a whole little crab inside when they crack in half....more often than not you get a crablleg or claw.....But now THAT fossil crab is just too cool!

I haven't been back there since last summer. I think I will try to get back there soon and try to find some of those crabball things. There are a lot of those round hard sandstone balls in the bank, so wish me luck.
