Crawl spaces

How do you search a crawl space when you are metal detecting? Is there a smaller detector you can use that is bigger than a pin pointer? This is just something that crossed my mind as I have many relatives with houses on pier and beam and they were built from the late 1800's. Any thoughts?

Does your detector have a two piece shaft? Take it apart and hold just the lower shaft and coil to sweep and keep the box in your other hand.

i was going to say same as Charlie,, take your head and box off and carry the box in 1 hand and the coil in the other and sweep it around,, make sure you do not have a ring on the coil hand

Great place for smaller coils, held in hand, no shafts.

Wear some safety gear! A Good dust mask, some eye protection, gloves, coveralls and a small helmet. We are talking rodent droppings as well as other animal droppings, homes sprayed with liquid or powdered poisons, rusty nails, broken glass, bugs & spiders, nails in rafters and just the rafters and maybe some snakes depending on where you are. However I'd be done under them as well as who knows what all is there! Be safe so you are not sorry later on in life. Great idea, good success to you on your quest!.....................63bkpkr
