These matching rocks were found in my backyard, in Houston, around 1984.
I have always wondered what they could be!

Very cool. I have no idea but someone here will know what these are and let you know. Welcome aboard.

Wow!

I'd be very interested in them too. I've never seen anything like them, and very obviously they are pretty darned different.

Welcome to TNet, I look forward to the answers you receive on this - and I'm certain you'll receive a direction to take in your further research. TNet has good people here.

Those are quite unique, please get those checked out by a geologist or paleontologist. Please add a quarter next to the photo for scale. Even if they are not dino related they may have crystalline structure inside.

Very interesting.

How close where these two when found?
Had the ground been disturbed prior to being found? If so how?

Where these found on the top of the ground? While digging? What exactly?

I suggest having someone at a university or natural history museum in your area look at them.

The fourth photo showing the one item with the white band at the top from the side give the appearance of two different materials with a small gap between them. Are the two different materials bonded tightly together?

Does the two different looking materials both appear to be a natural stone material?

In a small test area, try performing a Mohs Hardness test.

I wouldn't be suprised if they were dinosaur eggs...petrified....

I went to Google and searched Fossilized eggs, Looked at images, and there are several that look really similar. I agree, I would have a paleontologist look at it.

GREAT FIND

They were found while digging and leveling an extremely neglected backyard. I think the house/neighborhood was built in the early 1940’s. This area of Houston is flanked with 3 bayous and in the 40’s would have been the leading edge of development for the city.
So, yes the ground had been disturbed, first when it was built, and two times that we worked on the yard. Possibly when we were digging for drainage...one or two feet?
I don’t remember if we found them at the same time, so I don’t know how close together they were.
The whitish line that runs thru is crystal looking and is very bonded together with the rest. Completely different tho. The tops and the bottoms look very different, as well.

if they are not eggs, then my educated guess is rough Jasper

very unique. I've seen thousands of fossils and millions of rocks and I'm stumped. Whatever they are, I don't think they were originally from your yard. They seem to have been removed from a rock matrix.

I'm curios what some of the more educated fossil guys think.
