Found this copper - I assume because of its green patina - crown wheel or gear. What's it from?

It looks to me like a ball bearing seal and separator to keep the balls evenly spaced.

I think you nailed it. I didn't notice that the spaces between the "teeth" were scalloped. Now I can see that this is a cage out of a ball bearing which would also explain why it's made out of a corrosion resistant metal so as to not lock up as easily. Good job!
