Looks like a fun time! :icon_thumleft:

Sorry, off topic....but that cover you are wearing is fairly new, you must be a 'boot'. LOL, Semper Fi Marine, carry on.

(double post, sorry)

I bought this "authorized for duty" cover off the "net". My camo cover from Vietnam rotted away. I still have the "boonie hat" though. I'll find it today a post a pic. OORAH! TTC

(It's my thread and will allow any off topic swings, sir. TTC)

Most important words on the inside of my cover go: MADE IN USA! TTC

What made it fun was no rangers came by! TTC

Funny you should say that. I visited Saguaro National Park on my own while on a business trip to Phoenix about 25 years ago and was hassled by a female park ranger there.

I'd gone down to the park in a rental car and wandered off the beaten path looking for critters (I'm into herping) and this really frosted the ass of this particular ranger. She interrogated me for several minutes regarding what I was doing and basically told me to keep moving on if I knew what was good for me.

All I can guess is they were paranoid about people poaching animals or plants, fortunately I was about ready to go anyways so I just moved on down the road.

I cannot vouch for her authority or attitude but sounds like she had a "burr" up her **s. As a 30 year officer myself, I see no need for such an attitude. I also know how to respond to such attitudes but will not take it up here. I have met many Fed and state rangers and call most friend. One, in CA, even told me to arm myself if going down onto the Stanislaus River as it was then cubbing season and mama bears WILL get testy if I were in their backyard. TTC

HERE IT IS! The first time I washed it, it shrunk. I lived in a village so Ihad one of the local girls cut and sew a piece of material, they had no camo, so I could wear it. She also cut down the brim and sewed the top flat.

But.... I put it on and found it no longer makes me invisible. It also made bullets pass through my body without injury but I'll pass on that test!

Just a suggestion, soak your hat in hot water and while it is still warm and wet stretch it over something hard that would subsitute as the size of your own head. Hope this might help. Thank You for your service in Viet Nam.

Awesome!!! TY TTC!! :icon_salut:

Oh, it fits just fine now. My head "swelled" much as a combat Marine but now it is back down to its normal size.... somewhat. My head size will NEVER return to its pre-Marine size, though, I think. This hat brought back some memories so I called my cousin Al. We met at boot camp and then again in Da Nang. We got pretty drunk in Da Nang! Good memories. If you go far enough into my posts, you will see a pic of him and I from about a year ago. TTC

Here's a pic of the boonie hat you see above. Da Nang, 1968, April (I think) when I went to CAP school. I would have been 18 at that time, turning 19 on May 24th.

You can also see in this pic that I have my dog tags strung on a shoe lace. They are pierced and secured on opposite sides of my neck so they will not "clink" while on patrol. TTC
