thanks woody  got four of the roman coins with the lobo, but to be honest the finds didn't slow down with the cortes! they are both brilliant in my opinion
i was a bit dissapointed when the lobo started playing up, i would have liked to have finished the day off with it,but i don't think the results would have been any different!
oh! and thats not my car the pictures were taken in :D

Hi Shawn. OK, funny how you find your first Roman on the back hill, and go back and find 4 more just next to it. Remember how you felt with the first one back in Sept?

Did you look at my ideas about the Lobo? Do you know what the problem was?

Darn about the mats, had hoped all the bugs were now out of the working car... :-\

the finds came from the second field we tried in sept (the one with the thick stubble)!
had a look at the coil and can't see any cracks :icon_scratch: there was a build up of ice on top of the coil and around the cable so maybe that didn't help :-\ anyway i turned it on today and it seems fine :)

All I can tell is that it works fine unless it gets too wet from the ground conditions like wet grass etc... Not sure how to solve it :icon_scratch:

Again Shaun, did you perform the steps I have laid out for finding out what the problem is?

Nice finds and that bottle is beautiful!

woody i checked the coil as far as i could, if you remember cru tapes his coils up so its pretty hard to see :-\
its deffinately not the box as it was on my belt, under my coat so it was warm and dry!
any movement caused it to beep but i took the lead out of the box and shook the box and nothing!
is that what you meant by the steps :icon_scratch:

I think he means, take off all the tape & the coil cover & inspect the base of the coil for any damage.

it looks like you had a great day in the fields

That's what I though, the second field. About your coil, most of the troubles lie with worn or cracks in the coil bottom. That is why a cover IS NECESSARY. Yes they cost a few pounds but are worth it at the end. And check the coil covers every once in a while, and replace when damaged.

That you turned it on and it seems to work perfect ok. But what you told me later about the worn parts, first dry it out. Then you have to seal it and that will be hard, it is hard to find something to stick on plastic (and there are so many types of plastic). But if you take it out again in the field moisture will again enter and you will have a problem. I have written to you and maybe can find something for you... answer the PM first...

My original post was made in a post from Cru:

As you say the stubble is now easy to work & the settled & wet conditions are perfect for deeper finds.
That's neat. I call the field to the right of the photos (by the way great photos) the Button field, and the whole farm the Button farm. You know why

Shaun did good with the Lobo (until it started playing up due to water on the coil) but he is still travelling home.
Hmm, it could not be water on the coil, never had any problem with that, even searching in the water. Tell him to remove the cover on the coil and clean it. Then inspect it very carefully for cracks or small holes. If there are any the chance of repair are slim, could try to dry it out first (just put in a warm place for a week or more) then test it, if good seal the hole then (not before). My friend with a Garrett had such a problem, but we could not repair the coils.

Otherwise it could be the cold (it looks cold there) on the detector or batteries. I always use the Lobo hanging from my belt, under my coat when it is cold or freezing (actually always). DO THIS with every detector if you can when its very cold. And don't forget the colder it is the less strength the batteries will have, so keep reserve batteries in a pocket next to your body, and keep the detector, until used, in a warm place, not in the boot of your car where its too cold.

If those things were not the problem it could be like Silver Searcher says, water seeping into the control unit. Was it raining? Don't think so, so water in the coil or coldness....

No, never do that. That just won't work. If you get them apart and dry them you will need to seal them again. And that is the problem. Manufactures spend much time and effort to find a sealant that will work with their material for the coils. It works perfect, but only the manufacture knows which sealant to use. We (or I) have tried much but nothing really works for me, there are too many types of plastic out there. You need something with a bit of acid in it so it etches the plastic and holds fast.

I have never had any success in repairing coils. Had broke one a time back and everyone said buy a new one.
