well today i went to crusaders field again and had a really good day!
i got fed and watered and cru's dad even picked me up a new shovel  thanks again for everything
crusader even took the pics for me which will follow!

my best find was a beautiful roman brooch, i've wanted one since i can remember and this one sill has the pin on it which still swivels :o
also my first jetton ;D ;D
3 possibly 4 roman coins, one of which cru's dad says is a new variant
a medieval belt mount
and a nice georgian military button( royal artillary regiment)
plus george 11 and a victorian coin
oh! and a 17th century token

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Like the Artillery CRU! That one held up quite well for your dirt.

I know it looks like my post, but all pictured items were found by Shaun7

Ok, now it makes sense, you don't find them that good. :D

It held up well with a good loop & only the backmark of *London* because it was WWI (or do you think earlier :icon_scratch: ?). By lunchtime it was his best find & I said it was a good one as its one I haven't had yet (which as you know with the size of my collection is pretty good going).

Funny, it was my first thought that it was Georgian (being that its 1 piece & the GR), but the crown reminded me of George V & the letter styles of the GR were identical to the ones on the WWI capbadges I own :icon_scratch:. So you would date it to the 1790-1820s? If your right, then its a very good & collectable find.

Yes, definitely that early. Often found at War of 1812 sites. I have found several over the years and all with Georgian era finds.

The belt mount is a nice find I think. Too bad about #1 though. By #2 I meant the sort of coin token second photo on the right side on the bottom. Looks like a funny coin, but maybe trade token. #3, OK now I see it... suck away!

Thanks Shaun, and I bet you are itching to go back!

Yes, you are rich in something much better than monetary value, you dug it and CRU didn't! Rich in satisfaction! :D

Pinned the date down abit with the above site. It looks like it was once a Gold Plated Officer Button post 1802, & no later the 1820.

http://www.pbase.com/richard_canada/buttons

The above dates it to the War of 1812.

I think they only sell for about $20 in the US. To a collector here you might get £5-8, but compared to most UK buttons this is a OK value

Yes $20-$30 USD would be on par for a decent one. It's just the way the market has gone with so many being dug now. Not all that long ago it was $100 find.

It's a small world when it comes to detecting. Richard, the person who's link you posted... I'm friends with a good friend of his who has come down to hunt with me a few times. Those guys sure found their share 7-10 years ago.

Here's a pic from one of those digs. :-X Was 6 or 7 years ago, good memories.
