CSA Camp-Bullets, Enfield with "57"Base, Plate from US Saddle-New Pic of 57 Base

Dman (Mr. C.S.A. Buckle) and I invited Josh to hunt a different Gen. John Hunt Morgan Camp with us today. They could hunt only 3-4 hours because of their respective businesses needing attention so we started at 9am. We ended up with the usual round balls (.31 to .69 cal.), .58 cal. 3 ringers, and a couple of Enfields. Josh had the best find today with a .577 cal. Enfield with a "57" stamped in the base. That was his first base marked Enfield. He also dug the oval brass guard plate in the center of the first pic. These guard plates were affixed around the seat of the saddle so rawhide could be run through the slots to tie on bedrolls with rawhide. No doubt Morgan Troops "appropriated" the McClellan saddle from some Union Troopers.
Dman and Josh are shown in the 2nd pic. Not a bad day on a short hunt with 16 displayable relics from a Confederate Camp that has seen more than it's share of hunters. Note to F75 Users-Today, if it read "12" or higher on the display and was 9-12 inches deep, we dug the signal and most of the time it was a bullet. Good Hunting from all 3 of us and Happy Holidays from Tennessee, Quindy.
NOTE-I added a pic of a .577 cal. Enfield with the "57" molded into the base if you have never seen one. Josh carried his bullet home with him and this one is from my collection. As soon as Josh dug it, I cleaned the dirt from the base to see if it had a base mark. Morgan Camps have some Enfields with base marks. The "57" is the most common to find.

Very nice finds guys! More history saved!
Thanks Bil, Dawg, TnM, Spitfire, Mike P., and Don C. That site has the deepest relics of any I have ever hunted. The relic hunter friends who originally found that camp told me that after they quit hunting there. The new machines can get it done. HH and thanks for looking, Quindy.

2010 CW & Colonial Relic count=177 on the way to our goal of 200 each. Dman has basically the same count and Josh has 258+.

Thanks Joe. I hunted all but 5 of the mornings and almost all afternoons since Tenn. muzzloader and gun season began Nov. 5th and that hurt my relic recovery rate too. Our first gun season ends today. The big buck eluded me this year. You and Mini have a great Christmas. I know that both of you are thankful she's well on the road to a full recovery and will soon show you up relic hunting. HH, Quindy.

That's exactly why we don't grid search much at all Josh. It's nice to know we (or future generations) can go back and still dig a little CSA history in the future. Thanks Josh, Q.
