Found along the CT River

There are grinding facets all the way around. There are three finger polished flat spots.

JMO I would call it a knapping/pecking tool. There is no doubt they used it for a tool, very cool find.
 

Very nice. Looks like it was made from a quartz cobble with those polished, flat spots being cortex. Having all that pitting on the "grinding facets", it may be a hammer.
 

The wear on that rock looks almost exactly like the piece of hard sandstone I've used as a knapping hammer stone for the past few years.
