This was the very FIRST coin target I dug on my first field site success. I'm curious if anyone can identify or at least narrow down what variety of Reale it might be. Most notably following what would have been "Carolus" , "lus" on my find, there is enough of the coin left to see, at least the beginning of the roman numerals III, IIII or IV but there isn't any. Not even the "dot" between the S and the first numeral. On the reverse there is not much to go on. I'm thinking part of a "Pillar" should be visible, but it's not.
Thanks for any help on this piece, It may forever remain a mystery. Bill

2 times the radius will give you the diameter.
As a rule of thumb, use 18mm for a 1/2R; 20mm for a 1R, 28mm for a 2R, 34mm for a 4R; and 40mm for an 8R.

Charles IV, which would be 1789 to 1808, I think.

Yep, Charles. 1770's to 1808, looks to be from an 8 real and was cut to make smaller change, in this case it looks like two real which would be 25 cents.
