Hello All,

I managed to get a CW Eagle button on Saturday and a 3-ring minieball, along with a piece of a powder flask. My buddy Foxhound got a 1/2 Reale (1789). Here are a few photos. The backmark on the Eagle is Horstman Bros. This is the first Horstman backmarked button I have found--all the rest of my Eagle buttons are Waterbury or Scovill. Also nice to get a few CW relics at a house site for once. Last few Eagle Buttons found at house sites have all been pre-Civil War.

Regards,

Buckleboy

It was fairly shallow because the house site was in a plowed field--but it was crumpled up into a ball. I had to carefully straighten it out.

That's insane!!! I just dug the same exact flask (both sides of it) on Saturday as well!!! I was just going to have someone ID it when I saw your post. Know anything about it?

I've attached pics of mine.

Cheers,
Brendan

Sounds like we should have a powder flask party! What are the odds...

Congrats on your flask. Looks like a little later than CW era.

Oh that's awesome. Thanks so much for the link and info!

This was a really fun find. It rang like a huge piece of scrap metal, but I dug it anyway, and was SO glad I did! And yes, what are the odds of us both finding that this weekend? :)

Congrats on your flask as well!

Cheers and HH,
Brendan

Nice digs buckleboy, thanks for the pic's.

Wow, what great finds. I am new to detecting, and may I ask what state you found them in? I have just recently been given the green light to use my new XLT on private land that was used as a civil war field hospital (so the lady says). I am still trying to reserch the area.

Actually PBK replied on another thread of mine that this design was made by Waterbury Co. Between 1840 and 1850ish.
