I am back from my first of 3 relic hunting vacations down in east Tenn. I have been saving vacation days to make long weekends for CW relic hunting in Oct and Nov. I was pretty fired up as I had done alot of research and my dad had then obtained permision on these new sites:
Day 1: hit a hard hunted battle site, but the grass in the pasture was pretty high and I only managed one mangled fired carbine bullet and 5 pieces of canister slugs.
Day 2: Hunted 2 picture perfect spots that my research showed alot of CW activity around but neither produced anything. Then went back to try and squeeze a few more relics out of the Union/colonial site that I have hunted hard for the last year. Managed to find some minies, a pack stud and a silver plated ?. With still a few hours of daylight left we talked with a property owner nearby who gave us permission to hunt the most god-awful, poison ivy infested pine thicket you have ever seen....and that also hid a CS picket post. Tons of melted lead and a handful of Confederate bullets.
Day 3: Hit the CS picket post/pine thicket from Hades again...and again, more melted lead and some M&M379 bullets. Not much brass this time...but now I have a CS camp to find! I'll end this post now and go back to scratching. Thanks for looking and HH'ing!
