Who knows but it is a nice little pin. Is this a particular style of pin? I know very little about Jewelry but I can tell it is gold plated on the base and may have a gold top. Also dug, aside from the poptops, a small mule shoe and a 1940 nickel. Yooper was right about the small disk. I found another with the shaft intact along with more lantern parts. This one had a patent date of April 1877. The small pin was very deep about 8 inches. Thanks to all who reply! HH!

Cool pin, Satellite! I must have missed your other post on the lantern part and the nickel. I've had a tough time with nickels, personally. I think they hear my shovel and move 5 or 6 inches at a time.

The Detroit Tigers logo is just an old english "D", it's not specific to the team so i wouldn't bet on it having anything to do with baseball (plus the D on your thing is actuallly different from the Tigers...) Good luck with the ID!
