I took inspiration from mbuce (check out his post http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/t...cial-distancing-results-spanish-silver-2.html) and did some social distancing today. I found a site that had three early to mid 1800s houses on it and the owner was happy to let me detect it, he told me that people had found a ton of arrowheads on the property... throughout the day two of the neighbors also told me about how people have found a ton of artifacts here so I am pretty excited about what the site may yield.

I started detecting it and within about 40 minutes I had found three old flatbuttons and by the end of the day I had found 6 of those, an Matron Head (first LC, woo hoo!), half of a Queen Victoria penny, an 1868 IHP, a small musket ball (or buckshot), two pieces of a clay pipe (also a first), and what I think might be some sort of Indian artifact (Never found one, always wanted to though). If anyone has any opinion on the big flint piece please let me know!

Sorry in advance for my terrible photography skills!

Here is a photo of everything.

Here are a couple of pictures of my pipe bowl and stem pieces. If anyone has an idea on the date range of the bowl I would love to know.

Here's my 1868 IHP

Queen Victoria! Too bad she's cut in half, I bet it has a story to tell though.

Flint thing... if it is an artifact I think it might be a scraper or something but it is broken in half. If not, I carried a rock around all day... no loss.

Thank you all for reading and trying to help me ID my stuff, there is also this thing...IMG_2328.webp. Happy hunting everyone! Make sure to do some extra metal detecting... er... social distancing.

I'm not sure what the Indian had intended that piece to be originally, but it's broken and could very well have been repurposed into a scraper. Your mangled item in your second post is what's left of a mid to late 1800s suspender clip

Thanks Steve! I originally thought it was some kind of buckle or something but I just google searched suspender clips and I think you are right on the money. Thanks.

That is an Indian artifact. Probably some kind of cache blade or large knife. Way to go.

Thanks Smokey, I contacted the director of archaeology at a college not too far away and he said it is definitely an artifact.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

very nice mix of finds! I wish I could help on dating the pipe bowls

Congratulations on carrying around the artifact for a day. Think Native American artifacts a little more common in Oregon.

Thanks y'all! The guy who gave me permission apparently didn't ask his wife who has a metal detector but has never used it, now she wants to metal detect it and search for artifacts... goshdarnit! I probably won't be going back there anytime soon, unless she tries and doesn't like it.

Queen Vic penny was used as a washer or that type of thingy in some machine and when it broke it was trash.

Wow that was a mighty great hunt! Congrats and although I am definitely not an expert that is 100% Native American!
