The weather held & although windy & cold we had no expected snow.
Spent 4 hours hunting (8 man hours) with very little. We even did a section on the hill which had been ploughed recently & was very flat. Nothing. The best indicator of a good UK site is Lead & we have found none so far.
I scrapped our first silver coin of the site, two years later (1948) & it would have been nickle mix no silver.
Two disappointing finds with a large pewter/tombac button cica 1780s was broken badly, also the 17th century buckle. (Both were new variants to the collection)
On the positive side;
1 hour into the hunt I said it was about time we got a good livery button. Not long later Dad got one. Its a type we have but is in the best condition
I knew we were due one with the mix of rubbish 1 pieces we were finding.
Mystery:
Lead coated round stone, the size of a musket ball
