Ha..wow. you guys are going to need to re-enforce the walls of your cave soon.

We are gonna remove the overhang, then we will have a nice clean wall. Then down a little more.

Good job guys! Are you scraping the walls? I'm also wondering if you sift the material taken out. Could be some nice beads or bone in there. Thanks for the view.

Yessss! Love those finds! I recently found a clovis base in my throw bucket!

Naw we dont sift.I have only seen 3 birds in almost 7 years of diggin, and not in this area.We are slow diggers and try not to miss anything. But incase we do,the dirt is spread out for better looks later on.

That'll work. Thanks. Look forward to seeing your finds.

This may sound crazy to you guys but, how do you dig? Do you just go easy with a shovel, hand spade, TNT( just kidding on that last one) ? I only surface hunt river banks and plowed fields. Heck, some of my better finds have been on the side of the highway. Also, how long will you dig there. I know when the artifacts stop coming but usually how long is that?

Not crazy at all.....Well lets see if I can help.......Eli uses shovels and a swing pick, and a bucket to move it out.Once he has a good hole going he starts at the top and works his way down.(Removeing clumps with the pick.)

I use a small hand pick with a long tip.(called a wiggle-pick)I dont swing it,I push and wiggle it in and pop out large clumps onto a large tarp, then drag it out.

We dig untill we hit the Limestone Bedrock.Anywhere from 10in to 10ft or so.It depends on the site.I hope this helps....I will see if I can find a pic of our diggin tools.

I think that would be great since methods are so different from place to place and from one person to the next.

Yes! I think a digging thread would be nice. The only time I have ever dug, was with my friend, a retired archy. He roped 7 by 7 foot squares off and dug with hand spades and paint brushes. That was years ago, and I got impatient with his perfectionist method. I don't know if he found any thing, I left. He is a good guy, and has found really nice things. However at age 16 this method was way too slow for me!
