Well I have come to the deduction that there is lots of booty out there but it's going to be found by other MD'ers. I went to Sand Key this morning. I caught the tail end of a news item on tv that said they were going to put new sand there and I wanted to hunt it before it was done. I fully intended to get in the water and hunt and who knows maybe encounter "Big Ben" (the manatee) again. Ah well those were my intentions when I left the house. When I got down there it was real gray out and I knew it was going to rain. So what? I was planning on getting wet anyway and as long as there wasn't any lightening or thunder... go for it. I got my gear on and walked towards the water and bummer - it was just too choppy for me to get in the water. I just am not that brave to get in water that is churning up like it was. So I hunted along the towel line - back and forth for over an hour. I did meet one other Md'er down there but he said he watches the posts but has never registered. So if you are reading this.... HI! I found one small charm and a little bit of clad. I even picked up a towel as I was walking back to the car. I figured since it was partially covered with sand and no one was in the water or anywhere near it was abandoned. I wash them and use them for cleaning rags. It did rain but only lightly and I didn't mind it at all. I finally decided to ride over to Clearwater beach and try hunting the "dry" area for a while. That was even worse that Sand Key. I did find a little clad but less that I had been finding at Sand Key. I should have just stayed where I was to begin with. So all in all my total for today was $1.70 in clad and one small charm. The charm is heavy but not silver. I have no idea what it is. A flower? I really try but I guess this is one hobby that I am not going to get good at. Well that's ok. I did find over a dollar so I'll take it and just think about all the goodies I left for the rest of you to find! ::)

This is the front and back of the charm.

The good finds will come. You have a lot of good competition up that way. But as I watch the things you are digging its just a matter of time. Any one of those pull tabs could have been a ring.

You just need a little luck and your coil has to pass over it.....

Mumszie,
Don't give up your getting closer, everyone has their day! The only way to have it is stay upbeat and keep going, never give up never surrender!

I guess we missed each other today...my mother (fldaphne) and i were down there this AM ...i found 1 silver disney mickey ring and $1.59 clad..she didn`t do too well. it poured on us for about 20 minutes.
maybe next time we will see you there! good luck! miket :icon_sunny:

I did see a couple of others at Clearwater and I was going to go say hello but I think I am beginning to be a pain to other MD'ers so I've been kind of minding my own business here lately. Were you down on the South side near the rock jetty? I was there when they were setting up the chairs and umbrellas. It did lightly rain on me too but not enough to keep me away.
::)

You hang in there Mumzie, and keep on hunting. I go for long spells without finding anything but pop tabs and pennies and then bingo, ring, ring, ring. Here's the mantra that I keep muttering when I'm whining to myself that the other hunters are better, have gotten it all, or that there's nothing there to get

"You won't know if you don't go"

I used to pick up all the abandoned towels I could carry, wash them off and sell them at garage sales. These were the huge heavy beach towels you could almost use for a blanket.

You found a green pop top! ;D

Yes..then moved to the north end. I saw another MD~ER there and we both almost collided..i guess we were both looking down :icon_study: and suddenly looked up and :tongue3: ...it came pretty close! I never saw him coming..he didn`t either. But he just turned away and said nothing. ok..see ya maybe next time! miket

When that waves settle down just imagine the goodies that will be waiting.

Try to get out there to about waist deep and you will find what you are looking for.

I am just like you, even if it is clad I'm content. I would rather find something, coming back with just pull tabs is a bummer.

I'll be down there tomorrow, hope to see you there.

You made a good choice to not go in the choppy water Mumszie  I've seen the way you work the beach, you know what you're doing out there and you'll get yours.

Mumszie I have a filing, soon you will post a nice ring or too.
Keep the faith and swing the coil.It will come.

yup, what they said, and , it's not a matter of skill, I mean hey, you could hear tones all day long but unless one of them turns out to be gold/silver/platinum or full of gemstones, your just diggin metal. As a wise old guy once told me yesterday, if you don't swing your coil over it, you ain't gonna find it. Peace, out. :icon_sunny:

OKAY! I have a question. Having lived in Pinellas county for many years before getting into this hobby, I have never heard of any of you detecting the public accesses on down the beach. Have tried to talk my brother into it but he hasn't done it. Was on Indian Shores for a week in March and found a ton of clad along with all the other debris eveyrone else finds. Did not have a wet machine with me. Just about everything I found was at the beach access points. I am thinking about in the water at those points??? There just has to be gold there. Just an idea from an ex Florida beach bum.

Im not sure I understand what you are talking about but... where the public walks between houses to get to the beach? I do hunt the areas where like at Clearwater is the entrance to the beach.

I think he was meaning that one could possibly find more targets close to the entrances to the beach, for example close to the parking lot or the open entrances to the beach. Being that most, if not all, people pass through here and would enter the water there, there might be a possibility of more chances to find.

Usually there is more clad in these areas, but as we all find out in time, treasure is where you find it. It could be anywhere, it's where ever some one lost it. There are always more targets where the biggest concentration of people are/were.

You and I have talked about this before. Actually, you are more up on this than me. I'm still learning.

I hope it is calm tomorrow.

JP

Wishing you calm seas and lots of gold, it will happen, keep swinging!
