I spent most of a day tracing a deed back to an early owner. The old deeds were hand written and the writers don't seem to be to concerned about any one else reading their writting. Now I can see how the spelling of names and townes change over time. The old roads in surveys weren't named. They were called out as the road from this town to that town. The thing is the town names changed, even the bigger ones. Example, Hagerstown MD. in a 1794 map does not appear, it was caller Elizabeth Town then. Counties change size, and states change. I was checking a story in Virginia and by the end of the tail, it was in WV. The states out west were much bigger when they were territories. Research can be a crazy and confusing thing at times, but it can also bring in the gold so it is worth every minute. Frank
