I didn't posted for some time. Mostly because of little sucess on our sites or because of exploring new fields. Today was a good day after a couple blanks the weeks before. We went out to check out some options for today and found one of our sites harvested and deep ploughed. The Farmer did a deep turn after the drought to get the field wetted.
It was my 25th hunt on this small field and even with the deep turn i didn't expected much. It's the site i got the most Roman Silver off and even my oldest Roman Silver. The site spreads out over three small fields from different farmers so you never be able to detect the complete site at once.

I start with the only find from a short hunt on the other field of this site some weeks ago. It's a Roman key of a type i didn't got before. Looks familar with what is still used!

Roman coins of today on a pot shard, Fibula (Brooch) and what i think it is a horn of a bull votive figurine.

Buttons and coins of the day, cool find is the openwork button.

Other relics, head of a Cherub, coin weight, Belt mounts(?), part of a silver pocket watch back.

Love the key! And love the cherub head too!

Thanks for sharing this :)

The key & the fibula are in nice condition, shame about the scrappies, but thats normal...
I guess you know the Fibula is in Britain considered Iron Age (Celtic), have you had other pre-Roman finds from that Site (Coins)?

Yes, we say Iron Age too. I'm still trying to get exact info on this one. If you know? As for now i can say Latene between 4th to 1th C. BC.
It's my oldest site and we had some iron age finds there, but only one coin. Celtic silver unit with dancing man. I just said that a Stater must be there....
You may remember the golden ear ring frag? Same site and identified iron age. Plus the ocassional plain iron age brooches.

They are dated from 1st C BC-1st C AD, I kind of call them transition period (if they were 1st C AD). La Tene type III.
Yes remember the gold.
Good luck gridding.

Liking the key and the Fibula
Best of luck on your next outing.

A great haul !

Thanks for the replies! I did another two hours today gridding the area where the iron age fibula came out with little success. I have to clean one coin. Fingers crossed for a celtic bronze unit....
