deep seeking detector 2

Hi y'all,
i'm a newbie, am looking for a deep seeking detector, least capable of locating a 2ft. diameter metal drum @ 10 - 20 meters deep.=) is this possible ? and also has anyone tried building this metal locator?

10-20 meters That's roughly 33 feet down minimum and 66 feet max. I hate to rain on your parade but I don't know of any detector with that kind of capability in lieu of your target. Maybe a mag or 1 meter loop would detect an army tank at those depths, but I doubt a metal barrel/drum. Better talk to a dowser...and make sure they have a big backhoe

thanks darren for the insight... ive tried dowsing .. its fun, the thing moves ... but I didn't get anything. anyways, maybe somebody can help find a good plan for do-it-yourself metal detector that can detect metal drum about 10ft. or so.. i can't afford buying one...

If you are only wanting to go 10 foot or so a 2 box would probably do the job. Fisher makes a very good 2 box machine..

What is your location? I have a magnetometer and gradiometer which might work if the object
is ferrous (iron bearing). I am in Florida.

Also you could get with a survey company and see if you could use one of their fluxgate magnetometer
probes. They use these to find utilities, wells and property markers that are underground. It might have enough range to locate it.

10 foot shouldn't be as much of a problem, Teburshock. I have a inexpensive (about $120) deep seeking pi unit you can get the plans for. Go to http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,4718.0.html and scroll down to the pictures to see one and then the plans are a couple of posts after the pics. Two boxes are good, but they are tricky and can give false signals if they aren't balanced properly. I have one made by Discovery. PI units are much more reliable. The one I have will look past the smaller items and only detect large items. Good luck.

Darren I'll see if i can buy the parts for that projects. making and assembling electronic project is is not a problem, usually we have problems in availability of the parts. and also $120 is almost 2 months wage for me . anyways thank you for all your help.

I'll try first the one from geothec 2 box project. This will be my first treasure hunting. I'll let y'all know what will happen.

My story how I got into treasure hunting; a friend of mine came to me asking if i could help him sell his platinum bar. so i helped him, and I found out that it is very hard to sell that kind of an item. it's much easier to sell drugs than a platinum bar . but anyways during the time when i was looking for a buyer my best friend said to me that he knows a treasure site, a lots of them.

the treasure site: it is on a private land, an old man told the owner of that land, that the father of the old man was killed on his land during the WWII, and the Japanese buried some treasure on that land. During the war the old man's father was POW, and they were force to make a tunnel about ten meter deep near the river and the Japanese blew up the tunnel with POW and treasure inside. the old man described the location. And of course, at first they were skeptical. so my friend went there, by the way the owner of the land is my best friends uncle. they found they location, they found the mouth of the tunnell but it was covered with a big rock. so they dig a hole about 2 meters from the mouth of the tunell and when the hole got leveled with the mouth of the tunne, they found that the soil was wet and when they step on it their feet got burn. so they stop digging. then they dig again ten meters ahead and now they use dowser rod. they found just stones six meter under. tomorrow I'll attach the sketch of the area so it won't be a confusing story.

I know I need a good detector for this project. I'm not asking for a financing here. even though i don't have much money to buy a metal detector. thank you all for your offer and suggestions. if ever i find some treasure on this I'll post the picture.
by the way they say the site contains 2 barrel of gold bars. the size of that barrel 2ft in diameter 3 ft in height. you estimate how many 6x3x2 inch gold bars in there
if you're skeptic, don't flame me, just ask question... ok?

Darren, the MD that made looks like the MAXI-PULSE 5000, can its reach the deep of 6 to 15ft? how deep will it reach?

Dinkydick how deep will the a magnetometer and gradiometer can reach? base in your experience.

First of all, be careful of the 30ft claims some of the mfg's advertise. I for one don't believe those claims.

To be honest, I don't know if my detector will go 6-15ft since I've never dug that deep for any target nor have I air-tested it at those depths. For a barrel? Yes, probably 6ft. Can't say for 15ft. I'll see if I can pull it out this weekend for an air test and see if I can get some measurable results.

We have spent millions of pesos for MDs but these gadgets will only mislead you because most treasure sites of the japs have many decoys to confuse and lost you to the right area. We even used satellite locator and scanners but to no use. You might just experience digging a 30 foot hole and find an object only as big as your wrist.

I dont thing so butz ,bec in 1997 when the japanese won the contract here in our province to made the flood control
project,i meet 3 japanese guys who speak very good tagalog,in there office (were i repair there computer),i saw from my self P.I detector (withe 1x1 loop coil)beside the table were i work,after that two of the jap speak with their language(seem
argueing if who left the equipt)the one who left told me that they will use it to detect ww2 bomb at the foot of the bridge
were they were constracting,after 4 weeks i didnt anymore seen 3 jap guys ,when i ask the filipino in charge he told me they got dengue and when back to japan(but i heard story from the folk who lives near the the bridge they saw all the jap
operates all the machinenry with military escort in evening few days before the 3 japs guys left that project)? i think
most of the treasure site if you have the right equipt,there will be more changes of success.........

This is in answer to your question regarding magnetometers and gradiometers.

I will try to make it as clear as possible so you can understand what I am explaining. Here goes

What is the geographical latitude of your location? Your answer will help me out. I will explain later.

I have four magnetometers, three for land use (one of them can be used as a gradiometer) and one marine. The manufactures are Aquascan MC-5, Geometrics G-856AX, Varian 49, and one home built.

The MC-5, G-856AX and homebuilt have a sensitivities of 1 nanotesla. Noise thresholds of these units could vary between 2 and 5 nanoteslas. I assume an operational threshold of 5 nanotesla for all my work.
In your area (jungle) it could be 2 nanotesla. The G-856AX in gradiometer mode has a sensitivity of 0.1
nanotesla and a threshold of 1 nanotesla.

Now to your answer. A nanotesla is a unit measurement of magnetic intensitity. I might add that the longer the ferrous object has be in one position the easier it is to detect with a mag. Over time the object becomes magnitized thus providing it's own field. The earth's magnetic field enters the ground at different angles depending on where in the world the object is located (Latitude). This angle is important as the position of the magnetometer sensor is related to it. You want to position the sensor in it's most sensitive position, horizontal or vertical or somewhere in between.

Sensitivities. The mass (weight) of ferrous metal determines the magnetic intensity. A one (1) pound piece of ferrous metal will produce a magnetic level of 5 nanotesla (noise threshold) at 2.5 meters. A one hundred (100) pound piece of metal at 11 meters. It can be seen that the lower the noise threshold is the deeper the detection range. For a 1 nanotesla noise threshold the figures become 3.5 and 12 meters respectively. Noise threshold levels are effected by power lines, metal buildings, metal in the soil, etc. Searching in remote areas has it's advantages.

I hope this answers some of your questions regarding magnetometers.

Remember - GOLD is not ferrous either is SILVER.

Guys I got a new problem, maybe you can help me on this... butz was right about decoys. the Japanese sprinkle gold dust or something around the area or far from the true location also Japanese cover their treasure with asphalt. The gold bars its self is covered with asphalt or sometimes they also cover the barrel with asphat to avoid metal detectors. that its why most of the big time treasure hunter here does'nt use MD. they trust the sign. I don't have a japanese sign reader or someone who know how to read signs. and also some sign were broken by stupid THer thinking its was the "thing". so ..... any suggestion?
