Department of the Interior Opens 2.1 Million Acres in Alaska’s Dalton Corridor

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Department of the Interior is set to issue Public Land Order No. 7966 in Alaska’s Dalton Utility Corridor, opening approximately 2.1 million acres of public land to location and entry under the public land and mining laws. This marks a historic step forward in fulfilling the State of Alaska’s land entitlement. The order revokes two previous withdrawals north of the Yukon River — Public Land Orders 5150 and 5180 — expanding opportunities for resource development and enhancing the State’s control over its own destiny.

Perhaps all of us can learn from this opening of public lands.......:cat::notworthy::notworthy:

There are many ignorant people that think we should sell off most of the public lands, so watch out for that one.
The key wording here is that opening approximately 2.1 million acres of public land to location and entry under the public land and mining laws.

That’s fine, but there is a group of people pushing for disposal of the remainder of public lands. There is the rub to watch out for.

Go take a look at some of the Acts of Congress for the intentions enacted.

If the State of Alaska can open up more lands for mineral entry under the public land and mining laws why can't other states do the same is the general good question???????

May have something to do with "Manifest destiny" just ask most Indian tribes about a "Resist" effort????????

I’d rather manifest hope.

A Native American friend once reminded me that even after every evil thing was released from Pandora’s Box, hope remained.

I’d much rather resist, and manifest hope, than spread despair and defeatism.

War isn’t pretty and it gets uglier the further back in history you go. I support utilization of MY natural resources. Preservation is a fine edge to walk down when it comes to land management. Preserve to what end? There is a comfortable middle ground.

You misspelled ’Our’.

Preservation IS the “middle ground”. Utilization of Our natural resources should only be decided by the people it belongs to…. Us. Not some individual prone to whim and fattening their wallet.

Yes, war is ugly. As a Veteran I’ve paid the wages of war with my own blood, sweat and tears over three tours of duty. I did so willingly, so that you, myself and others could preserve our way of life and our property.

So yes, I will resist any efforts to undo that preservation without our council.

I didn’t misspell anything. We each get to say that as citizens. When we each legitimately exercise our claim it becomes ours. OURS is a very vague term. Who’s? Everyone’s? No.
Thank you for your service. “Preserve our way of life and property” AMEN. That was it in a nutshell wasn’t it?

Unfortunately the humans who have resources are often the first to say the humans who don't have resources are not entitled to extract resources.

The general principle is that if you are not extracting resources then you don't have an active mine.

I remember reading with fascination about folks that would metal detect for gold nuggets and use screwdrivers to pry them out of bedrock in the streams in Alaska. The only thing that prevented me from traveling there to do it myself was my wife, finances, age, bears, wolves, and mosquitos oh my. So I laid down until the feeling passed. :laughing7:

You are not alone. Still, one can go out and do such perhaps on a small scale.

There is no requirement to utilize the full 5 acres that is spelled out by Congress legislation.
Keeping the concepts of "Discovery" and 'Active Claim' is a good idea.
