An 1870's IHP, always a good find in my book. Looks to have been in nice shape when dropped. Shame it's developed a bit of cancer.



Always love finding a functional crotal bell. This one's a bit diminutive. Once I shook the sand out of it produced a beautiful ring.

Yes, any of the 1870's dated Indian Cents are fairly uncommon to find - congrats !

I've found 331 Indian Cents and only 7 of them have 1870's dates.

The IHP is in great shape. Early drop. Too bad about the cancer...but I'm with you, I'd happily take an early IHP regardless of the condition.

Cancer is a good description for that light blueish green corrosion. I dug an Indian like that and could not do much to remove it. Olive oil will turn the coin black, electrolysis will remove the good patina. I used a dremel with a brass wire wheel on low speed to try to reduce the eruptions.

Looks like the more rare version of a closed 3. Nice looking coin!
