DeSoto Loot

Interesting column, thanks for sharing.
It would have been thrilling to be part of the group metal detecting.

The wooden cross is another interesting find. It would have been nice to get more on that find and how it was located.

Cool article, may be corroborating evidence to one of my own finds, i think I?ve found a barrel strap saw on my trade site my biggest hesitation though has been its copper or brass and I wouldn?t think durable for a saw

Pretty interesting. We used to rope rappel a large pit for fun when I was younger . We did not know then it was a burial pit full of artifacts. The owners dug it out and story goes they found a Conquistador helmet. I never saw it so can not verify it. But years later did find many Chickasaw artifacts near the river.
Here is the only picture I have of me and that pit.

I used to do a lot of rope climbing. Did the 3rd highest under ground waterfall known my cousin set the world record on the worlds longest rappal off mount Thor he also did Angel Falls. I always had to work. No idea how many ancient artifacts I missed back then. The only thing I ever took was a cave bear tooth.
The Chickasaw got pushed out by the Cherokee. Both have very interesting early histories. Desoto made a mistake thinking they were friendly
