Relic Hunting
Hello Everyone,

Today the weather was beautiful for metal detecting an old farm field. The going was rough with little high tones and any heard were trash.:BangHead: So, I did what any relic hunter does and dug everything. I dug a lot of iron to see what goodies may be hiding in the field. Some of the cool finds were a pair of Ox shoes, Tractor chain, small metal ax like piece and a round lead disk. The interesting find was a Clay Pipe that was in the same hole as one of the Ox shoes.:hello2: The pipe (McDougalls of Glasgow, Scotland) after some research appears to be dated in the mid 1800’s. This makes sense since the homes were built around 1830. Unfortunately, all of the homes; six in total were cleared in the 60’s – 70’s and the large area is now used for farming.

Thank You for looking.:wav:

Regards,

Doc

That's a great looking pipe, bucket lister for me, congratulations on the save

Man that is an outstanding Relic.
Congrats..

It's nice to have the area farmed. Soil is moved around every year and you will not miss a lot.

Thanks buck8point! :occasion14:

Congrats on the find!

very cool pipe indeed and more complete than most found

Thanks "Dirtlooter"!

If you have one, I’d take a probe back and see if you weren’t on top of a trash pit or dump site. Nice pipe!

Hi, wow nice relic find congrats:occasion14: will make a great display piece

That pipe is a nice find Professor. It looks to be in great shape.

Very nice old clay pipe! I believe there are more goodies their!

That's a very nice find Doc...neat piece of history. Friday was a perfect day for digging around Massachusetts, and it is such a relief to have the snow gone. Hopefully we can look forward to a decent Spring with lots of opportunities for detecting.

POE, congrats on the pipe piece. It's not easy to have a piece that large survive the harrow blades.....especially the bowl.

Great find, Prof! Such a cool find and in great condition, I don't see many dodge the plow that long! Thx for sharing, Ddf.

Awesome find! Very cool pipe! Congrats! :icon_thumleft:

I know the farmer very well :blob1::blob9:, only uses a 6" or 8" disk, since below this depth the ground is all rocks! I'm glad to have decided to dig the big iron that was 12"+. Unfortunately, property in the area is for sale and detecting in the near future will be non-existing. :BangHead:

Great looking pipe. I never knew I wanted to find one until I started to see posts like yours over the years. Great find. She's a beaut!
