I’ve hunted a very old fairgrounds a dozen times, the most numerous silver finds were in the grassy area, middle of the horse track, a fairly large area where vehicles used to park. It’s all concrete around the grandstand area, so no luck here. I did talk to a hunter that said over time he had made many great old finds in the dirt track itself.

I always do well near the entrance/exits, and walking lanes. And also the path to and from any parking areas and the parking areas themselves. You never know...

Don't forget any pathways to the bathrooms.

Around the coin toss booth area. There was a temporary traveling fair I would take the kids to and I would pace off the location of the coin toss booth so that when they left town I would hit it.

remember that fairgrounds are always changing .. what was there last year might be in a totally different location this year .. so unless you are strictly clad shooting .. check out as many old maps and photos as you can.. when I was in my teens I would pick up a job of raking the carnival grounds in town every year .. money could be found anywhere on the grounds, but a vast majority of it was at the beer tent.
