Detecting in the Melbourne, Florida area

Does anyone detect in Melbourne, Florida? I understand that one can go in the water there, as opposed to further south, where it's forbidden. Any good advice on the Melbourne area beaches?

I'd be curious how the signals/finds are there compare to the Clearwater area. After a year of regularly hunting here, my tally so far is: gold = 0, silver = 1. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

What time of day are you hunting? If your hunting in the mornings your late to the party in off season.

It makes a huge difference in time of day, as Clearwater is hit hard in the evening and night. I have found multiple gold at Clearwater over the years, its not my favorite beach because of the parking.

So true. Parking is killing me in fees. Two hours is over $10.00 at any of the Clearwater beach access locations. I'm only 15-20 minutes from the beach, so I try and talk my wife into driving me down and dropping me off, then when I'm done I'll call her to come get me. I don't have to worry about finding parking nor the parking fees.

I have detected all up and down the east coast. The more beach traffic the better your odds, but it is the same on this East side, only water is lot colder than the gulf and the surf is a lot rougher...

Gold is over $4000 Oz, less people are buying gold rings which is why we find so many carbon rings. Gold picks up in summer time and drops off in the fall unless a hurricane trips the sand off the beaches.

Key Biscayne and Miami beaches are the best beaches to hunt...

Well, before I left early from Tampa to return to Ohio I hunted along Sand Key from Upham beach/St Pete all the way up to Indian Rocks beach and in one word IT SUCKED. Made Clearwater look like a Gem (in the rough).

I like Indian Rocks Beach because it still has free parking (when it's available). But you're right, I've found very little there, despite the increase in Spring/Summer traffic. There's a stretch at Clearwater beach between the pier and the breakwater rocks to the south of about 1/4 mile, where it's always packed with people in the warmer months. But it's also crowded with detectorists like a Tokyo subway, and any jewelry lost by the crowd is instantly devoured. I was out there yesterday afternoon for almost three hours in the water and had only one signal in all that time (a pop tab). Admittedly, it was high tide, but still...

Looks like I won't be relocating to the Melbourne area after all, so the reason for this post is academic right now.

Couldn't be any worse than Clearwater Beach, sad to say. I'm going to start traveling and visiting other beaches, though, to see how things are elsewhere. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised.
