Detector(s) used
MineLabs (Explorer ) , Tesoro (DeLeon ) ,Garrett (AT Pro Gold)
Okay, I'm sort of new or at least still learning ? I have a Tesoro DeLeon that i love and have found many coins with. My other detector is a MineLabs Excalibur which I use in shallow water. I live on Martha's Vineyard and have started to find that curtain baseball size + rocks indicate 95 on my Desoro detector . I have pulled them up and tried to disriminate them out but they seem to keep indicating, any ideas ? or has anyone else experienced this ?

What these are called are Hot Rocks. They have extra minerals to them to have the detector go off like a normal target. Depending on the size of the rocks, the Excal or Sov GT will ignore them.

Thanks, I mostly hunt what are called the " ancient cart paths " out here and have found many early coins ,mostly coppers. As we get into the summer the " rock " targets seem to diminish ? The only way I have been able to distinguish the rocks is that they indicate with a slightly jumpy sound ? Guess I can use the Minelabs until summer , but the thing feels like it weighs 20lbs more than the Tesoro. Thanks Again ~ Rich

I find a few hot rocks here in Alabama. They always give a weird tone and a double beep. The only way to pin point them is to mark the center between the beeps which are usually about a foot apart. Any one else had this to happen. :icon_scratch:

Maybe you can post some photos of these rocks... I'm at least curious what they look like.

I never bothered to take pictures of hot rocks. Some look like cinders an others like a plain rock. :laughing7:

there a royal pain if you try any prospecting at all especially all metal mode!

here in georgia i run across hot rocks every once in a while , here they just look like regular rocks , sometimes gravel , havent even bothered trying to discern them out on my bandido 2 umax , kinda fun finding them :>)

I worked a tot lot here in NTX recently that kept falsing on my Cibola. Finally figured out it was the granite underlayer they used--it had a high iron content, and would stick to my rare earth magnet...
