Crazy day at the farm today. I don't know what got into my old Tesoro, but it was coming up with finds like crazy in areas I've hit many times. It was beeping as if I was in "all metal" mode, but I wasn't. I can only figure it was due to one of two things:
1) A new 9 volt battery brand, or
2) My old Tesoro knows I have a new Tesoro coming in the mail any day now, and figured it better prove itself again quickly. ;D
I mentioned the other day that I was running out of search areas until I can go back out into the woods safely (ticks, snakes). Now it looks like I need to re-hit all the safe grass areas again. Today I pulled up more coins and more old buttons in areas I thought were hunted out. Boy, was I wrong.
So folks, after not posting anything decent for awhile, here are my finds for today:
*A 1935 silver Quarter. Yeah, Baby!!! :D
*A 19?? Buffalo nickel and a 1952 nickel. They were in the same hole!
*A 1917 & a 1946 wheat that were bonded together. Also a 1940 wheat in a separate hole.
(The 1917 wheat is my oldest wheat so far)
*Three old buttons. One says "Double Gilt - No. 2" on the backmark. The other two have no lettering.
Any idea of the age of the "Double Gilt" button? The front is just flat / plain.
*A piece of a spoon. It feels heavy like lead. No markings, just the high ridge pictured. Could it be CW era?
*A cool looking "reward" tag.
Well, that's all folks. Thanks for looking, and have a great week.

Doug! That cannon deal cleaned up great! :)

Again, awesome pics and another good read.

I have not been able to get out for a month, man it sucks. Life is getting in the way for me, but I'm living through all the adventures posted here.

Do you need my address again to mail me that old Tesoro?

Great finds. You have found some great items at that site.WTG HH Wolfbite

MM, You da Man. Love the silver, love the tag, aww heck I love it all! See you taught me a lesson and didn't even know it, never call it hunted out. I have to commit that to memory. Thanks, Bongo

Nice finds.

I'm definitely not a button expert but I've found a few similar to the one you found. The backmark is called a quality mark which if I recall correctly from one of PBKs educational posts were used after 1795. I think these quality marks were only used until the mid 1800s so your button should between 1800-1850. I have not located any legends to help date the quality marks and I don't think one exists.

I don't know of one either... at least on-line. I would certainly say it's a "era" button... It does fall in line with some of your other finds...

Jim,
I think it's only you and Ted Turner over there in Montana, so I shouldn't need your address to send the Tesoro to you. ;D Isn't Montana where Ted stores all his buffalo at? ???
It sucks when you can't get out to detect. I just got lucky with having this farm so close to work, I can hit it at lunchtime.
I've been riding around out in the country lately, knocking on a few farmhouse doors, trying to get permission for another MD site. So far, no luck. Those country folk think you're going to take advantage of them somehow. ;D I'll keep trying. I know there has to be a farmers daughter out there somewhere. ;)
Thanks,
MM

I'd say your "no idea" thinghy with the quarter is a lead seal missing the steel wire. Maybe from a meter box or phone/cable box.

Charlie,
That makes sense now. The other side has the same grooved pattern on it, and it does look like a wire was connected on the edge before.
Thanks,
MM

Neat stuff. Love the reward tag.

Silver bigger than a dime.... ;D ;D

Been feeling under the weather lately so I won't be getting out until Friday.

With all due respect to your detector ;), we did have freezing temps for a few nights here in the south this week. It's been a while since that has happened. Not much of a frost heave, I'm guessing, but prehaps enough to move some finds around.

Anyone else is the SE willing to have a go at their favorite hunted out area and test my theory? ;D I don't have any locations to test on my own :'(.

Outstanding finds!

Great finds, BTW.

Looks like that 'ole dawg can still hunt. Don't put him down yet, he might teach that new pup a thing or two. LOL
Great finds and pics! HH!

I love the cannon What a rewarding day! Are you going to see if the place offering the reward is still in existence?

Seems as if you have a perpetually productive site!
AWESOME!

Those great finds just keep on coming!

Have fun,
Salvager
