detector shaft adjustment

It seems the predrilled adjustment holes on detector shaft are never quite right for me. I was wondering...Would it be OK to drill a hole between the factory predrilled holes?? It always seems that the perfect adjustment is always between the factory holes.

should be Ok

Shouldn't weaken it as long as you don't put several close together

I went ahead and did it. Works ok, what a relief.
