detectors and prospecting

just wondering if there is much interest in gold prospecting?
which one PI or VLF?
are there any GMT's being used?

Pans, sluices, dredges and detectors. Yes there is interest in prospecting.

I have a Garrett Scorpion. I have fun with it. GMT's are great for nuggets also.

looking for good prospecting area's around wenachee.
which detector, vlf or pi.?
going up that way to visit our oldest son around may and would like to get any and all in-put as to where to go for panning and detecting.

Well, I guess that would depend on what kind of detecting you will be doing.

Will you be going from land to water? And, vice-versa?

Also, it will depend on how familiar you are with detectors. I never advocate getting the most expensive detectors with all the bells and whistles, especially for someone starting out. I also don't advocate getting the cheapest detector, either, even if just starting out. (no $49.00 Radio Shack detectors, no matter what they say).

Also, different detectors will react differently to salt water, as opposed to fresh water. Is this going to be your only detector for now?

was thinking about a GMT for small gold and also doing alittle panning.
willing to do alittle travleing and getting some exercise [which is a good thing].are there open river's or streams for panning?

I'm not an expert in Washington gold - but - finding the small stuff is the mark of a GREAT detector. When you see an advertisement of some guy holding a 1 pound chunk of gold and saying he found that with his XXX detector, I turn the page!!! The 49 dollar crap could find that!

I like highbanking and panning. Then "lil Cameling" the concentrates!

thanks much beth for your in-put. panning and sluicing sounds like the way to go. my son in wenatchee has been talking to some people that have also been very helpfull. also, we may be making a trip to plumas, ca. during that time.
