Went out today as the weather ( heat) has turned a bit cooler. Been striking out as of late with a bunch of pits that were dipped. Getting skunked really so we went to an adjacent yard. Probed for about a minute and found one with some glass.

It was all of 5 feet deep and 4x4 or so. Found a lot of glass all shattered though but I did manage numerous pumpkinseed flasks and a couple of Godfreys Cordials. Then out pops a few Winslow’s Soothing syrups and a Dr. Parker’s worm syrup. Of course these were all intact as they are smaller bottles.

But then from the wall out pops this really crude designed Detroit Ink Co. bottle. I’ve never seen one let alone found one on line. So any help with that one would be great. That top is as crude as they come. Finally out pops a nice teal blue barrel ink that’s unembossed. So at least it wasn’t a skunk and happy to add to the ink collection. On the plus side too there are two more pits right by this one with glass in em. So I will rest up and tackle another one real soon. Any thoughts on the Detroit Ink would be great. Thanks for looking. KILLER is the only thought that comes to mind...

Wow, that thing is rude crude! I can't help out with any info, just wanna say congrats, that's a killer ink!

What were the pumpkinseeds like? 'Wouldn't mind seeing those.

Odell lists the maker on his ink mfg list but no info to go with it. Looks like you had a shady pit for a change, you probably still broke a sweat though

That ink is awesome!!! Wow, does that thing have some character or what! Talk about wacky! Jim is right, killer bottle. Never heard of one either but I’ll look around and see what turns up. Nice find on the teal as well. Wish that one was embossed too. Great job jgas and congratulations

That's a good looking ink for sure. You find some great bottles JGAS.

Very cool find!

That is an awesome bottle!

Oh yeah, I like that ink. Looks like a great pit you have going. I had one like that back in the late '60's

That's a new one on me, too. Ain't it amazing that unlisted bottles can turn up after so many years of bottle collecting and digging by so many people? That top is something else! I've never seen such a crude top on a tooled top bottle. Love that teal color on the other one, too.

Fantastic ink bottle find! Wow! Congrats!

Thanks for all the fantastic replies everyone. Sandchip you are correct. All these years and no one has seen one. Crazy. Guess that’s why we sweat and took over a 6 foot deep pit. Just to find a maverick or unlisted bottle. Into the cabinet it goes, at least for a little while. Jgas.

Great inks !!!! Just love the crudity of the Detroit !!! Congrats

Sent Ferdinand Meyer of PeachRidge Glass some pics and info on the ink. He says it’s from Henry H. Holt circa 1878. He is going to do a write up on the find. Must be pretty darn scarce tho. If this is the same Henry Holt that was the Lt. Governor in Michigan back then. Can’t wait to see what he has found about this find. Jgas.

Fantastic!!! Let us know when he releases the article please
