Diamonds or Emeralds? Which to look for as first timers?

I really want to take my wife to NC for emeralds or the State park in Arkansas for diamonds. I was wondering which would have the best chances of finding just a little something for her to make a nice ring (she makes jewelry). Thanks!

You will do better in NC looking for emeralds, Crater of Diamonds the chances are not as good.

Saw it on yahoo news this mornng, sure made me want to pack up and head that way. Had seen it on Cash and Treasures with Becky Worley looks like it would be fun. Then again NC has got some nice emeralds and probable a better chance at finding one.

remember this quality being equal-- by carat weight emeralds are worth more than diamonds

I' a newbie here and late to this thread, but I've heard/read a LOT of people who went to both areas and by FAR more people found an emerald or ruby than found diamonds in Arkansas. Now as to value, yes jewelry grade emeralds ARE rated to be more expensive than jewelry grade diamonds, but a LOT of the emeralds found are not that jewelry grade. BUT, they can be put in a decorator glass of some kind and look very pretty reminding you of a nice fun filled day.
