Did not follow ancient proverb yesterday "When bee comes out of hole with shovel, leave target and run". I didn't and had a yellow-jacket on the right arm and left leg. All this within first half hour of hunt...not an auspicious start!
There were many shotgun shells today so I posted the two oldest "1901 repeater No 12"(1901-1919) and "UMC Co. NITRO CLUB No 12"(1894-1910) along with a Hubley 1950's "TEX" cap gun, two bullets, and what looks like a piece to a child's toy.

Getting stung is no joke...just ask Abe.
Those old bullets are find of the day to me. Looks like they have a good color to be old.

I was also stung last week by a Yellow Jacket that was in a hole in the ground by a tree. It was 545 am and I must have woke them up swinging my coil over their ground nest. Got stung in the back of the neck... no fun at all...

Nice finds. I like the cap gun.

Nice hunt--damn bees hurt

MR.DIG NICE OLE CAP GUN AND HEADSTAMPS . I DONT KNOW WHICH IS WORSE THE STAMPS DANG BEES OR THE CAN SLAW JEWELRY. ONE THING ABOUT THE STAMPS THERE ARE MANY DIFFRENT ONES WORTH KEEPING. I THINK I HAVE CLOSE TO 40-50.

I ran the mower over a hole last week and thought, "Hmm...hadn't seen that, something must have burrowed a home out there. " Well when going by it later with the mower, about 30 of those critters were swarming. I paid those a visit with a can of raid. I was in shorts and a wonder I didn't get stung all over my legs. Those things come straight from the bowels of Hades!

Nice digs, I got tagged by a Japanese Hornet last year that came out of a hollowed black walnut tree while detecting. Kinda took the fun out of detecting that evening.

I'll take a little yellow-jacket over a Japanese hornet any day. Yikes!!!

Sutphin, Didn't know I'd be finding so many head stamps, but I'm using 2-tone ferrous and with the numbers ranging above iron, anywhere from 25 to 50, I've got to dig them. Don't want to miss a button.

Like the Cap gun..

Always hated those ground hornets... At the water we have the biting fly's!!

How ironic, I was on a site last week and while digging a good sounding target up next to some tree roots at the brush line , I got swarmed and I did run but managed to get about 9 stings mainly on my arms and hands. Not allergic but it hurt REAL bad for two full days. The hole is still open but I am not going back to find out what it was....they win.

Getting stung isn't up there in anyones adventures when they go out hunting as it simply sucks. Ants are a pain when the nest is right on the target but a hornet nest is just nasty.

Yes, the bees win until winter.
