did some relic hunting today...is this a button????

got out for a little at a site with some old foundations. went down near a creek and found this. i accidentally broke part of the loop off when i was rubbing some of the dirt off. i'm pretty sure it's a button....is it? if it is, does anyone have any idea of age??

Yes its a button but cant tell what is on it. Is it possible to clean anymore? 8)

im soaking it in oil right now..there's deffininately a pattern, ill try to clean it some more later. it looks like little diamonds everywhere.
