Different Coils?

I'm new to metal detecting and my dad bought me a realy cheap MD last year and the coil is nothing like the ones that are actualy GOOD, mine can only go 9" and I live in an area where there are some realy old places.
Can they be interchanged? Can I use a different coil with my base MD?

You can only use another coil from the same manufacturer. Most cheap MD's don't have extra coils. There is nothing wrong with getting 9 inches.

In tricky soil with a VERY good machine, that is sometimes pretty deep..

And is this in an 'air test' or actual soil depth?

It would help if you posted what kind of machine you have..


And keep in mind that most people blame the machine when the MD is functioning perfectly, they just don't have the patience to use it correctly.

ok. You CAN get extra coils, but I don't know if I would bother..
It's not THE best detector, but it will work, and if you're getting 9" I would say you're doing VERY well with it..

Just go steadily and slowly and dig ANY "questionable signals" with that one..

My first MD was a Bounty Hunter sharpshooter and i still loan it out, and it is a very good coinshooter for the money...

You should be fine with that one til you master it.. ESPECIALLY if you are hitting 9" with it..

9 inches is great bud , after you get to know your MD , youl achieve better depth and heep in mind that depending on soil conditions and such a target at 3 inches may be 2 hundred years old by rule of thumb in average soil conditions,
a one once hunk of silver sinks aprox 1 inch per 25 years. in soft soils this my double . 2 "=25 yrs
