Detector(s) used
Modified GI Mine Detector (In the 60s)
Metrotech (In the 70s)
Tesoro Tejon (Now!)
Primary Interest:
Relic Hunting
I'm a grudging believer. After 8 years swearing by my Tesoro Tejon (and keeping up easily with my friends and their "fancy" machines) the head on my Tejon got wonky. I had long said, "You can buy a more expensive machine than the Tejon, but you can't buy a BETTER machine." I know, I know. Anyway, I had been given a Deus a couple of years ago, but had no interest in learning it. After months of scratchy, erratic behavior from my Tejon, I broke out the Deus and plunged into the woods. But I kept the Tejon close by. I hunted two spots that I have worn out. The last couple of times I went, I couldn't find hardly anything. That Deus did it's job. I'm a believer.

Great finds and MACHINE!!!!! Looks like u 2 are hitting it off just fine. GL & HH

Looking good. Don't tell anyone about the Deus. It separates in iron like nothing I have ever seen. There is great merit in going back over a site with another brand machine. And it really doesn't matter which brand, just a different BRAND not model. I've seen the increased results over and over again through time.

Nice Finds,

The Deus is one of the best machines for relic hunting.

Its pretty good on coins to. Not as good as the equinox is though.

But I'd give it an edge in the relic hunting dept but only by a little.

Ive used both machines enough hours to compare them. Some may disagree with me but I hunt a lot.

Jer

Congrats on the buttons and the recoveries. Great day's hunt from 2 beat sites .

I have found similar results through the series of explores, then the Deus sniffing out more even. Though at 10" in clay I think it's testing the limits sometimes.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Fantastic buttons. Congrats!

it sniffed out some good stuff. those buttons are great!

Congrats on the great finds !
The recovery speed of the Deus is amazing and I don't think you'll find a more comfortable to use - swing all day machine.

Check out Gary's "Sifter Program" if you hunt in areas with a lot of junk metal.
I've used this program on 90% of my hunts over the last 5 years - it's killer !

Great finds! Sometimes you just gotta try something new- I swore there was nothing better for me than my SE Pro- I'm using a Nox now and can't believe the things I find in areas that I would've sworn I cleaned out. Continued GL!

Congrats! Great job using the Deus.

Good to hear you can go over a hunted place and still pull w a different machine.

Do you feel your Tesoro was simply not hitting these targets or maybe they were showing up as junk signals? What was the difference for you?

Congrats on the new finds...:occasion14:

Gotta ask though....what's up with the big black rock? :icon_scratch:

Of course you're right Smokey. I'm learning that! I've always been a one-machine guy. Never owned two at a time. But it's sure true!

PullTab- I think on some of the finds, even though the Tejon is GOOD at sniffing out better targets among heavy iron, the Deus is a little better. A hot spot on this permission was the site of a barn that has been gone for 30 years. I think previous hunters ignored it because of the heavy preponderance of old farm iron. (I cleaned out about 200 lbs of it, because there were really good relics mixed in) So I think the Deus sniffed out more in heavy iron. The Four Eagle buttons are a mystery to me. I purposefully hiked deep into the woods to a site about the size of a one car garage where I did great many years ago. I pulled lots of dropped bullets, three war-era silver seated half-dimes, and multiple buttons. (This was years ago) I could not find a SINGLE target there in the last few years with the Tejon. As soon as I got there with the Deus, I hit that perfect button. Hunted tight around it and found three more. Clean sand, only about 10" deep. I WILL say that the signal wasn't good, even with the Deus. It was crackly and staccato, but I would dig ANY signal in that spot. So I don't have a clue how I missed them with the Tejon! Some have commented on this post that it doesn't matter WHAT different machine you use, just ANY different machine, because of its nuances will hit a few targets others miss.

Dizzy - Ha! Yes, I should have captioned that for guys who don't hunt Civil war spots. It's not a rock. It's about a 4" long fragment of a Parrot artillery shell. Shrapnel. Happy hunting!

Very nice! Congrats!

Nice!!!!!! I did the same thing when I switched from my Garrett to my equinox, found a whole new realm of “stuff”. My buddy does great in heavy iron with his Deus and the sniper coil. Congrats

I think this is a great strategy (cleaning a spot you frequent). I've been cleaning a field and have been pulling nice jewlery lately. I think cleaning, running your machine on high/open and digging every signal is key.

Thanks for the response.
