Looks like a blowhole. Pics of the front and back would help.
That looks like one of the sturdier, heavy brass ones.Beauty. Be careful they're delicate. I found one and a Neanderthal from Maine crushed it. Lol

All of these were found at 1750s/60s French & Indian War sites. Some are quite sturdy, such as those first three in the bottom row. Others were thin and fragile, such as the ones with poorly defined blow holes and no shanks. Not sure what they were made of...wasn't brass.Yeap, that blowhole would have been gilt at one stage.
