We have a new townhall annex going in where a playground used to be... the digging is done and they've set up some equipment but there is a wide run of bare earth. We're talking about 20 or so feet down all empty and waiting. Is it worth it to try to gain some permission for an afternoon's perusal or would there be anything that far down? I could look at the earthen walls and run my detector along them and see what I run into but I'm mostly curious about the horizontal and not the vertical.

Opinions... is it worthwhile trying to get permission for the work site?

It cant hurt. I wouldn't think you would get anything at 20 foot but at 1-2 feet on the sides you might

Check it out. Let us know. :dontknow:

When the local municipalities and other agencies have construction or demolition around my area, they always put up a fence for safety and every so many feet you see a no trespassing sign. I would see if I could detect the spoil but not venture into the hole. I can't think of anyone in their right mind giving you permission to go in the hole for liability reasons.

Early this morning I did about a half hour walk around onsite. Found nothing that hadn't been dropped there via onsite contamination. Two spots though did have signals that were interesting. One had a large footprint and rang in at about a 10 to 12... about a foot or so around and maybe 6 or so inches down. The fella I was with guessed maybe its a pipe that was there from something... I'm not sure. The other signal was in the low 30s and again was about 6 or 7 inches down.
It was interesting to walk around the site and look at the walls... you can see all sorts of things in the walls at various levels. Anyways... I'm done there... it was interesting but not what I'd thought I might run into. I'm back to High Rock Park to look for my abandoned houses in the woods.

Unless it's posted "No Trespassing", I'd just hit it after the construction crew leaves for the day. The only way to know if it's going to be good is to detect it!
