While sorting this weeks metal detecting finds I noticed this wheat stacked with my clad dimes.

It is the exact same size as a dime but not a dime planchette.
As I understand it dimes were made of silver back in 1941.

So is this the work of a handyman?

Quite likely a cent that someone filed down to use as a dime in a vending machine. A lot of kids did this back in the day when a dime could buy you something!

You caught me. I did it. Hundreds of pennies files down to dime diameter. I thought everyone did this when they were kids.

Screw the file!! Tin snips worked just as good and faster!! Soda's back in the day were 35 cents,four pennies and you got a nickel back 8-) Well.......that's what my brother told me.

You guys had to ruin it I was hoping for a penny struck on a dime planchet that would have been a cool find
