Dimes or pennies

90 % of the pennies I recover show as dimes on my 250. What's up with that?The only reliable indicator so far has been quarters.

Most machines have trouble differentiating between the copper pennies and dimes. MXT's, X-terra's, Ace 250's, and many others will have the same reading for a clad dime and a copper penny.

That's the truth. I have an X-Terra 305 and I find myself digging every solid signal no matter what the screen tells me because the coin readings aren't always consistent.

With the 250, pre 1982 cents will register as dimes. Post 1982 cents will show as pennies. Indian head cents also read as post 82 cents.

Alot of the times if its a penny and doesnt move it sa zinc penny. if it pops from dime to penny its a old penny if its dime dime dime dime ... Most of the time its a dime. If not.. Its a penny.
