Disapointed with my xterra 70

i havr had my xterra for 6 months now and not sure if it me or if anotjer style of detector would be best for me.i have taken to parks and it seemed to do fine with coin shooting, but with old home sites this machine seems to become ustable.are they known for a slow recovery rate.i always ground balance and noise cancel.even tried to bury ua 1983 quarter 5-6 inches and couldnt pick it up.would llike to know if anyone else has these problems, just seems like my fisher f 2 was a better machine

I agree. My explorer has difficulty in such conditions, even with no discrimination (which by the way is still annoying beyond belief for me). If you ever pull up MD videos on youtube, you will notice those southern guys generally use Tesoro's like the Tejon or Vaquero on their Civil War sites. I have owned a Vaquero and you can't get a better recovery speed, plus it was pretty deep even with the Discrimination turned way up for silver.

I went to youtube and typed in ..Tesoro vaquero ... and a hunter named ..53silver ... put up some really good videos on youtube useing the vaquero........ You should watch them...... Then you would want to get a ...Vaquero..... they are a nice detector........

the xterra line from Minelab just seem like they are an expensive version of the white's Prizm line.
I have a friend that had an exterra, he didn't have it very long. he now has an Etrac and loves it

Yes. I absolutely love my Xterra - its audio ID is spot on for quarters and it is amazing at finding dimes that others have missed, probably because you can easily tell the difference on this machine between a dime and a penny, where a lot of other machines can't. Its light, easy to pinpoint and just a great little machine - except if you are looking for deeper targets. My own recent test showed that a silver quarter at 5 inches gave a very weak flicker of a dime signal, and at six inches, it could no longer pick up the quarter. Solved the mystery of why no silver coins since I've owned it. Absolutely broke my heart.

I have an Xterra 70, the response is on the slow side compared to my other detectors, and I was not impressed with the performance of the stock coil and was ready to try something new. A detecting buddy told me that he had seen someone with the 10.5 DD on theirs pulling real deep targets. So I tried it with the 10.5 MF DD coil and it totally changed my wanting to sell it. With the 10.5 MF DD it is super deep in the ground in my area. I use mine mostly for hunting farm fields with the 10.5 MF DD coil and have no problem with targets in the 12 plus inch range. On a recent hunt I hit a large cent at 12 inches and part of a harness buckle at close to 14 inches. I actually picked up a second Xterra 70 as a backup.
