DISC OR NOTCH?

On the delta 4000 it has Disc. and notch modes, whats the reason for this? As they seem to do the same thing. At least with this MD you can't fine tune disc. with a knob, you just eliminate an entire target or not, which is what the notch does as well.
What am I missing and does one function better than the other?

i haven't used the Delta but in machines I've had in the past, the notch feature eliminated a whole range of targets without effecting other areas. some regular discrimination adjustments are progressive....by that I mean that it starts at the low end of conductivity and progresses to the high end. If you want to keep gold and nickels but get rid of screw tops and other mid range junk targets, you couldn't do it with regular discrimination but you could with notch.
