That is very cool! ..I wonder if has anything to do with the WWI War Savings Service program?

That’s the first thing we thought too after searching but the area it was found was early 1800s and the type of button seems much older

No back marks and shank is gone

I strongly suspect this object is actually a 20th Century collar-pin insignia, missing the usual pin-shaped mounting-stud on its back. Photo of the back, please.

I couldn't find a match online but my feeling is this is a War Saving Service lapel pin from WW1
