Nice rack! :tongue3:
I've never seen a horseshoe that small. :icon_scratch: Very neat finds Gypsy.
Congrats,
MM

Nope, deer have split hooves! Probably a horseshoe heel tap. All the cool guys had them in high school. Looks like somebody failed to find that deer they thought they missed? Monty

Maybe its from a Shetland pony.

I would like to display the rack...but it still has some velvet on the antlers ...does anyone know how to clean it?

Nice finds at least you got out, warmed up a bit :icon_sunny:

Hi, I am from S. Korea. I hunt the old trails that went over the hills/mts passes. I find many, many older nails and horse/pony shoes.
Would you like one of the better ones that I find? Would be glad to send it to you.
If you would, let me know at hikeinmts@hotmail.com You would have to provide an address, but would be a pleasure to add to your
collection with one from another country.
Let me know. William

I'd leave the velvet on, as it gives great character. Maybe do a European Skull Mount. Bleach the skull and mount on a nice Walnut Plaque.

They don't look too bad. Soap and water with a scrub brush if you feel the need. I assume there's no meat or anything in the skull. If you feel the need to bleach, don't do it very long. Maybe a couple of minutes in a diluted bleach water that's boiling. Leave for a couple minutes then let dry. You might rub a little bit of linseed oil on the rack itself for a bit of a sheen. Leave the skull as is. JMO

I call them heel plates. The rack would make a cool coat rack. HH, Mike

Gypsy, I would have loved to find that rack! One thing I have always looked for but never seemed to find is a set of antlers. Maybe on my hike through the woods this weekend? Cool heel plate. Now big or small you have them all!

We want pictures of the rack when you get it just right!
