Do Deer Wear Shoes?

My two amazing finds for the week....LOL
I cant seem to hunt anywhere without finding a horseshoe...my collection is growing!
This is the tiniest one I have found to date...2 x 3 inches.
My big find was the 8 pointer found up in the Ozarks .....I was a happy hunter!

It is shed hunting season but the deer seldom leave their skulls behind, in my limited experience.

Hi Gypsy

On the rack I would peel off the old velvet as it looks as much is missing already. You can use some bleach and sun but it can soften the bone. Hydrogen peroxide will also lighten it. You can also get a cool looking flat white paint to do the skull.That looks great if you display it inside. I like the European skull mounts and do many that way. i have even silver leafed one,lol.
Nice finds and looked to be a fun day.

Gypsy, we have a couple of miniature horses that the 'shoe' is sized right for, but the conformation of their feet calls for slightly rounded sides on the shoe. Your normal horse shoe shapes should reflect the curved sides as well. I vote for heel plate too.

tnm could you please post a pic of the shull your talking about I have never seen a whitem painted skull and the silver leaf I would like to see what one looks like. I see plain shulls and beautiful paintings on alot but nothing like you mentioned. I WOULD like to see it.

Deer shoes!!!! Wish my aunt from Lapland was still around to hear that! She would of loved it.

Civil War or Lumbering heel plates I think. That or else you found the spot the DA haired greasers had thier beer parties in the 1950's.

Dig deeper after considerable research I beleive it is a heel plate from the shoe of Jimmy Hoffa!

GYPSY. I USE DEER ANTLERS FOR KNIFE HANDLES. BABY OIL IS GOOD AFTER THEY ARE CLEANED.

That's pretty cool. I like it, I had never thought about doing that with one! Thanks for posting the pic and thanks for letting me know! I was skull hunting this last Sunday while we were detecting, found bones (cow) but, no skulls!
