Does anyone believe they're the only one in their area?

Conducting CRH activities that is... I do

I believe that I'm the only one in my area simply due to the coin machines I use. According to the tellers, which I've grown to know very well now, I'm the only one bringing in halves and dimes in large quantity... ever. By large quantity, I never dump more than 1K per visit.

To add to my belief, I have been to every bank within a 30 mile radius of my home. There are only 4 banks in this area that have self-serve coin machines (they happen to all be the "Quick Change" machines. I have to believe that if there were any semi-serious CRH'ers in my area that they would certainly visit these machines on a regular basis.

I've only heard tell of one other CRH'er in my area (from one of my tellers at a pickup bank). The teller stated that a guy used to come in to their branch and purchase a box of pennies every other week. The teller then went on to snicker about how that same guy bragged about dumping the non-copper cents at one of their competitors.

What say you?

For comparison to your area, I live in a small town, surrounded by 3 cities of about 50K population each. All 3 of these cities are within my 30 mile search radius. And btw, the silver is flowing here and I'm recovering it as fast as possible! ;D

Re: Does anyone believe they're the only one in their area?

Judging solely from what the tellers are saying around here I strongly suspect that I am not the only one in the area. No matter, after today's visit for my weekly boxes of halves ("oops, they'll be in Friday") at least I know that the way to their hearts is fresh home baked bread and a 1/4 lb of real butter with it. The same teller who was a little taken aback when I last asked about ordering Ikes was the first to beam widely while thanking us for the bread last week. Heh heh heh Just wait until I spring the Hawaiian Sweet bread or the cinnamon raisin on them one of these days. 'FIRST PERSON TO GET ME A BAG OF IKES GETS A LOAF TO THEMSELVES!'

My wife goes with me when I pick up, and keeps telling them "At least it's affordable, unlike golf." Ah lubs her. :love5:

There are so many people CRHing around here that the banks will surely open a teller window just for those looking for silver.

;D

At least 6 people I know of on this forum alone! Pretty freakin crowded! I'm running into CRH'ers all the time now, and have been getting rewrapped DIMES - string rolls that have been opened and folded shut. It's getting ridiculous... ::)

Why do people continue to get paper wrapped dimes? Isn't that almost as time consuming as searching a box of nickels? Seems like a lot of work for very little if one is averaging a little over one coin per $500.

Brinks dimes are absolutely awful for me. Paper wraps are the way to go.

As far as my tellers tell me I am the only one. There is one guy who comes once a month and dumps halfs, so im thinking he does'nt live close. Most likely stops there when on a trip.. Also plastic wraped rolls never get a 1!!

Or spreads his dumps out over the weeks to NOT upset his dump banks- We should all try that a bit-
I go 3 or so weeks between some dump banks

I would try and spread out myself but I only have 1 bank that takes halfs. All the others in my area do not :(

I find other CRHs whenever I visit a college town or a higher populated area. When I stay country, I do well. But now, I have to travel out at least 100 miles. I just ordered and received a bag of 1000 ikes, and it sure beats driving all day and hearing "no" fifty times. I found 17 silvers and sold the remaining 983 very easily the same day.

Don't revive older threads, unless there is something like a non-identified coin, or a running question, like "What is your best find?" A question like that can change based on your new finds, so it should be occasionally revived.

I answered the question, and then elaborated.

I cross paths with at least one other hunter every single time I'm out, either dumping or picking up. I know and have conversed with eight different hunters. I've seen a few people around recently that I haven't gotten to know yet. Also recently, I've noticed an influx of Jersey hunters. There are a ton of hunters in my area, a lot of them are big volume guys.

I have found myself in the wake of other hunters as only run into 1 in my travels. I know my area is saturated as I have purchased many folded over string rolls.

I know of two hunters in my area. One I have met, he picks up bags of pennies from a UMB bank that I used to pick up from but stopped when I never got anything from any of the boxes or bags I picked up.

There is one guy who drives down from KC to dump at one of my pick up banks, he dumps $1000 in halves and does it inconstantly. Otherwise I know of no real hunters who look for anything around here, I appear to be the only one at all of my pick up and dump banks which are basically every bank in my local area.

I mostly hunt boxes.. I have not got one silver from a teller tray yet..

I know one other guy gets a box of halves a week from the same bank I do.. Other than that Im in the poorest part of my state and people are always looking for a freebie..

My brinks distribution center is just outside of st louis so any hunters in a pretty big radius will get boxes out from the same source..

Im moving back to Champaign IL in two months(cant wait!) Any hunters up there?

Ps why is everyone so afraid of giving their location..

I thought I was until I bought 100$ in dumps at two banks.

I have visited practically every bank within a 75 mile radius of my home and many further away than that. Almost every bank now says that they have at least 1 person who stops in "regularly" looking for halves, and this was not the case just a couple of years ago. I used to score rolls that the bank said that they had in their vault for a year or more on a somewhat regular basis. Now they seem to go back out nearly as fast as they come in. I don't think there are a bunch of people out there that go to the extent that we that post on this forum do to find silver. It does seem though that almost every bank has at least one regular customer that requests halves when they are at the bank for their normal banking business, or maybe visits most/all the banks in the town in which they reside somewhat regularly...which is just as bad as a few big-time searchers...if not worse.

Dude you always hit the nail right on the head.

Same for me, a few years back I saw no evidence. Now, almost every single bank I go into says they have at guy, or multiple guys, coming in regularly and asking for silver halves. Doesn't matter to me, boxes hunters seem to be a rarity, and I'm still finding a lot of silver in them so somewhere along the line they're getting in. The "casual" coin roll hunter is picking up tons of speed, these people generally only hurt road-trippers.

Interesting story though, one bank a few towns away I just stopped at for a 2nd time and found 2 40%s in the teller tray. The first time I went there, the teller that serviced me was a box hunter, and was telling me about all her box finds, and her teller tray snipes. Looks like she doesn't catch 'em all!

Yes, but you answered a question that was asked over a year ago! I wasted several minutes rereading the thread, thinking it was posted THIS year, trying to figure out why I hadn't seen SFBayArea or n8dag8345 posting recently.

Nothing wrong with rereading old threads; they're a great source of information. But if you want to respond to a thread that's more than a month or two old, it's by far better to start a new post, where you can link to the old thread. Just common courtesy, IMO.

I saw SF post a few weeks ago.
