I love this topic since I have a Hot Wheels collection ;D The first Hot Wheels car was the Custom Camaro, patented in 1967 and in stores in 1968..it had red striped tires and painted in spectraflame paint. 16 models were made the first year. The older Hot Wheels cars were made in both the U.S. and Hong Kong. In 1973 Mattel switched to enamel paint. They are highly collectible, but ones that are dug aren't usually in good shape.

Newer vehicles (made in Malaysia or any other place besides U.S. and Hong Kong) aren't as collectible.

I give them to the kids across the street

What's funny, is half the time when I'm in a park and find a toy car, I always seem to find a women with a kid there, and I walk up the her and give it to her (actuallyt the kid).... and no, It's never paned out...

I bring them home and clean them up and my six year old son takes them over from there.

Fun to find indeed. I find them on land and underwater.

Thanks ohio jerry nice link hh all . Rob

my father in law has a huge collection....built up over his lifetime (he's 60). regular ones bought in store...not dug up.

Welcome to tnet , I found a few of them HW and others.

Since I bought my detector last year i would guess that I have found at least 20+ cars in in the volley ball sand and a few others at the lake and buried in the wood chips. My girlfriends 10 year old son likes to clean them all up and get them back into working/playing order. We were just talking about this the other day and figured out that if they average $3.00 a piece thats about $60 worth of toys. They actually add up a little faster then the clad I find.

When I was stationed at Travis AFB California, my Son and I were detecting a yard, and we pulled out over 100 hot wheels, micro machines, cars, planes, military toys. Boy was my Son thrilled he really increased his collection. I guess the family that had lived there there kids played out in the back yard all the time. Everytime I would swing the detector it would go off and my Son would check the spot and pull out another toy!

Wow you think they add up your right . Im thinking of a restoration of some that I found. here are few I got the last month.

Since I have a major hot wheel collection from the original Red Lines & original Real Ryders opened and in separate display cases to the modern Treasure Hunts and series cars in there original packaging that when I dig one up I either give it to some kid that might be there to just putting them on one of the post in the area it was found. Hopeful it will be found a played with again.
