you should be able to clean it enough to read something off it. It looks pretty old i suggest you don't use it to lock up the family jewels. good luck

The GR with crown indicates that it was British, made during King George the 4th's reign (GR - Georgious Rex): 1820-30

I think this is a British made trunk lock and the GR stands for King George. Cool find and HH.
